An Atheists Unofficial
Guide to AA
& Secular AA
If An Atheists Guide is Vince’s classic best seller, then Secular AA is the final brick in his addiction collection. It offers members the opportunity to build their own, individual program. Steps and spirituality will not even be mandatory, let alone religion. Take what you want and leave the rest!
Buy an Atheists Unofficial guide to AA which is a companion to the 12 step program of Alcoholics Anonymous for atheists and agnostics.
Self-help book aimed at expanding the people helped by Alcoholics Anonymous by keeping those on board who would otherwise be put off by the god stuff. It is suggested everyone should buy Everyone's an Addict or As Vince Sees It, the book with the blue cover, but no more than one of Vince's accompanying handbooks - which are this one with a yellow cover, An Atheists Unofficial Guide to AA; and Twelve Steps to Self-improvement (to accompany any program) with the pink cover; or Secular AA, the latest, more advanced edition encouraging alcoholics to construct their own individual programs, with an orange cover.
These are not alternatives to AA but demonstrations that the AA program can work for anyone with just a few tweaks which flesh out the breadth of interpretations that can be put on it.
It is suggested everyone should buy Everyone’s an Addict, the book with the blue cover, and no more than one of Vince’s accompanying handbooks: The two mentioned above; or Twelve Steps to Self-improvement, with the pink cover, to go with any other program.
Buy Secular AA which is an aid to compiling your own program/building your own tool kit to abstain from alcohol.
This is a handbook for alcoholics who wish to devise their own individual program of abstention from alcohol. The author stopped drinking in 1998 and published his classic work, An Atheists Unofficial Guide to AA, in 2013. That one rewrites AA's 12 steps for the non-religious. This one, first published in 2022, addresses the option of no steps and offers many ways in which a program can be crafted to suit the individual. Another handbook to cover other addictions, An Atheists twelve steps (to accompany any addiction) was published in 2012. Only one of these three offerings need be chosen by an addict in the early stages of recovery, though this latest offering, Secular AA - the final one in the set published in 2022, will serve as an advanced companion to either of the other two. As Vince Sees It or Everyone's an Addict is a daily reader to serve as a complement to any of the handbooks.
